Overview

Rapid advances in connected health, mobile technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and gamification are making a difference in patient management [Tornincasa, 2022]. Artificial intelligence in medicine is transforming healthcare by personalising patient care based on  dataset  analyses [Dimitri, 2024]. AI can learn, reason, problem-solve, recognise patterns and understand language [Savage, 2025]. Digitalisation has improved patient access to information, which has facilitated monitoring, intervention and communications with healthcare professionals. Innovations for managing growth hormone in children and adolescents are some of the most broadly implemented digital health solutions in paediatrics [Tornincasa, 2022]. Although there are advantages and benefits to AI and digital solutions, awareness is needed regarding data privacy and, in particular, protecting children’s health data [Dimitri, 2024]. In addition, AI cannot create the patient-doctor relationship or assess the wider holistic determinants of care [Savage, 2025; Dimitri, 2024]. Height screening programmes are useful and cost-effective, providing an assessment of a child’s growth, and can help identify genetic disorders, diseases and other growth-related conditions [van Dommelen, 2025]. Automated growth tracking software integrated into Electronic Health Records systems can help healthcare professionals identify slow or accelerated growth during routine health checks [van Dommelen, 2025; Sankilampi, 2013].
